Rudy Fernandez Update

Just in from Trail Blazers Communications Department:
Rudy Fernandez sustained a soft tissue injury to his right upper chest and side area in the third quarter of Monday night's game vs. the LA Lakers. X-Rays and CT scan were both negative. Fernandez will be kept overnight at an area hospital for observation. He is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game vs. Dallas.
Best thoughts toward Rudy and his family.

I am so upset! The Lakers are a bunch of floppers and ball hogs! What happened to Rudy was SO uncalled for! Rudy, Baby, we love you and are praying for you. I am so worried for you I can't stop crying. God Bless you and we hope your ok. xoxoxoxo

Are you serious really? ariza was going for the ball but accidentally got a little bit of his head. Fernandez was obviously trying to flop a little for the refs because he knew that Ariza didnt hit him that hard and ended up hurt.

Thank you for the update. Please continue to keep us posted on Rudy. I have felt sick ever since he went down. Rudy plays with such fire, and no fear. Feel better quickly, Rudy. Other than that awful moment, this was a great game to watch.

Congrats Brandon on outscoring Kobe. We love all you guys!! I'm glad Joel wasn't in the game when Ariza took Rudy out! That would've been really ugly, especially since he already had one T at that point. Keep up the great work Blazers. You're all awesome!!!!

Lets keep it civil everybody.

Ariza wasn't trying to hurt anyone and Rudy wasn't trying to flop.

GET BETTER SOON RUDY, MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. I TOO WILL WRITE A LETTER TO DAVID STERN BECAUSE ARIZA'S BEHAVIOR IS APPALLING AND HE NEEDS TO GET SUSPENDED AND SO DOES LAMAR ODOM FOR LEAVING THE BENCH.

tonight is a shining example of the quality team our blazers are.

through the skirmish our players maintained their outstanding professionalism and controlled their emotions.

the respect between the coaching staff and players was evident as we stayed in our bench despite the initial surge to aid. to the players on the floor defusing the situation, WELL DONE!

it doesnt matter to rudy whether we got a 30 point lead or a 30 point deficit. hes pure quality. best wishes to you, rudy, cant wait to see you on the floor again!

Get well soon Rudy! We need you with the team. I will pray for you so you will get better. Take care hope to see you up and running around this coming Wednesday.

I agree with darb. The entire laker team was frustrated, and I think Ariza was only taking his frustration out on rudy by trying to block him, but not to injure him. Though I am myself am a little ticked off about Rudy. I will be praying for you Rudy. The sooner you get better the sooner we will be a complete team again, though having Oden and Webster would be helpful too.

thanks for the update on Rudy and i'm very glad the injury is not as severe as it could have been. while a chest injury isn't anything to sneeze about, as i watched the replay with my dad and brother i couldn't help but feel some relief that Rudy didn't land wrong on a leg and suffer a more severe knee or ankle injury.

i agree with the comments that Ariza needs a fine and/or suspension. it really was an unnecessary foul, the kind which can only lead to injury of one or both players; and his actions afterward were ridiculous and without class. to a lesser degree Josh Powell's defense of Ariza at the moment was uncalled for (but probably not worthy of further discipline).

wendeeopolis said...

Glad Rudy will be okay! I never like to see any player on any team take a hit like that, but when it's a guy from my team, that's even harder to see. I did welcome watching the other Blazers rally in support around him and finish off the Lakers.

This was a great win for the guys, too bad it was dampened by the injury to Rudy. Thank goodness it wasn't anything more serious. We love Rudy!!!

well im a lakers fan and im not ashamed of ariza's actions.and i believe he does not deserve to be suspended..although rudy was in a hurtful situation but according to the tapes it was nothing that ariza commited it was just how he landed..god bless his soul at this moment..ariza got ejected and that was well enough but being suspended should not occur...so go ahead and do a writing to david stern but LOS ANGELES is a big city and we can do it big out here too..i am so upset with all the comments toward the lakers and ariza when the trail blazers was the worst..the injury was something serious but it wasnt something that someone like ariza would be suspended over...we are praying for rudy too on behalf of pau gasol but ariza want trying to hurt anyone and for rudy to be in this mess..god bless his soul...IM JUST TRYING TO DEFEND ARIZA FROM THIS SITUATION AND PREVENT LAKERS FROM BEING HURT AGAIN...WE LOVE YOU AND WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU ARIZA AND THANK YOU LAKERS FOR TRYING...(YOU GUYS ARE STILL THE BEST) CONGRATS BLAZERS ON THE WIN BUT ONCE AGAIN ARIZA DOESNT DESERVE TO BE SUSPENDED BECAUSE HE DIDNT MEAN TO CAUSE HARM AND FOR RUDY TO BE IN THIS BAD SITUATION...

Daniel said...

I am glad the Rudy is ok. I hate to see that foul in any game, but it was made worse just because the game was a blowout. But, we still have to realixe in watching the replay that he was going for ball, he was not intentionally trying to hurt him. As far as the aftermath, I personally think that both teams overreacted, the concern should have been focused 100% on Rudy. As far as suspension if Big Baby Davis wasn't suspended for his flagarent foul against Cleveland when he made attempt to make a play on the ball, just grabbed the player around the head and threw him down, then Ariza shouldn't be suspended when he actually did try to make a play on the ball and accidentlly hit him in the head.

sam said...

ariza was not trying to go for the injury, but he was feeling the desperation of a losing game and wanted a hard stop to end the quarter, not a blazers bucket. in the attempt for the big stop he did a running sprint jumping arm swipe at a running sprinting jumping rudy. the big shame is that he tried to confront roy and the blazers after the play to spout off. he should have recognized that he made a mistake. flagrent 2 is the right call, and lets pray rudy gets his back. anyone that calls hip a flopper is a moron. he was flying through the air. how do you flop while flying through the air?

Anonymous said...

At Dan Hickman:

If you think that, that was a flagrant foul then you do not know anything... Flagrant fouls are when you intentionally hit someone in the head in order to stop them and purposefully hurt them. If you watch a legitimate replay, you will see that Ariza swapped all ball, Rudy is an idiot for not trying to stop his fall and just landing to make things look even worse.

Ariza can't play basketball again. He didn't go to stop the ball. Rudy is much better player and person than him. I wish that Stern do something about. After that Ariza was showing how bad he can do. I know Rudy and his family since long time ago. I play with his father at Joventut Badalona Veteran team and I know that all my city, Badalona, is very angry with Ariza. He is persona non grata in hour city.
As we say here: RU-DY!! RU-DY!! RU-DY!!
Coach McMillan put Rudy to play much team and play like a team, is the only way to defeat and destroy the other teams. RUDY at the starter line up now!!!!

As a Laker fan, there are certainly many of us that regret the extremely bad judgment on the part of Ariza. Having reviewed a number of times the clip, it was obvious that the foul was not malicious, however, it was certainly borne of frustration, and had nothing to do with the eventual outcome of the game.

It is no mystery that there is no love lost between our respective fandoms. However, before being fans, we should all remember that we are fans of the game, Pro Basketball. No Laker fan would have been happy to see this occur had the shoe been on the other foot. Every NBA Player, regardless of team affiliation, should know that there are times when you do not make a play on the ball. In this case, the Trailblazer player was obviously vulnerable, and Ariza should have resisted his agonistic fervor to defend against this play in view of this player's obvious momentum and vulnerability.

And yes, there are Laker fans out there, including myself, that are ashamed of Ariza's post-foul behavior. The Lakers have never been a thuggish team, however, a few more plays with this extremely bad judgment, and we will no longer be able to claim any type of moral high ground.

I understand you think the world should stop just cause one of your boys got knocked down hard. Being that your Blazzer fan, it would be hard for you to be objective and hold no-bias. B-Ball is an emotional game, so lets clear somethings up...

First Ariza recevices hard fouls weekly, like the one Rudy got last night. A couple of months ago, he had concussion. Doesn't make it right or wrong, just makes it basketball. Second, Roy got in his face first, get your facts right. Roy did what he was suppose to do by defending his teammate, makes sense. Third, was last nights game the first N.B.A game you've watched? Really? Did you pop your cherry last night? or are you normally as Shaq would say, a 'Master of Panic? Start a campaign on that, bozo...

So remember that! So quit with your "oh im a baby from portland and Ariza needs to get suspended". Wise up, fouls like that happen every night in the N.B.A. What basketball do you watch or play?
Settle down...

You people in Portland are ruthless. Trever ariza's foul was an accident and it ACCIDENTLY got someone hurt. Nobody told Brandon Roy to put on a cape and act like his little behind can beat everyone up. I really liked him before he showed me that. He needs to grow up.

Really? Neither team should be okay with the way their players acted. Outlaw started the pushing fest, Roy didn't back off when the Refs and his team mates pulled him away, Ariza was clearly overboard, Powell shouldn't have joined into things, and Odom shouldn't have left the bench... It's just a sad night for both teams: especially when the suspensions are handed out all around. Leaving the bench, flagrant fowls, and pushing during a dead ball are all usually automatic suspensions.

Congrats to the Blazers on a well played victory.

I also want to commend Jordan Farmar for checking on Rudy after the play and not getting involved in the altercations.

rudyfan08 said...

Yes Rudy was fouled. But Trevor wasn't trying to attack Rudy. If you watch the reverse angle, they shower it 10 times while Rudy was on the floor, it clearly shoes Trevor extend over Rudys head and get the ball first. Rudy was able to get more air than Trevor expected, the contact was made and Rudy got the bad end of the deal.

Unknown said...

Lakers better be scared next time they meet with Portland.

Anu Lawrence said...

Ariza may have hit him hard, but he was frustrated at the score and clearly going for the ball-NOT attempting to injure; their hands got tangled incidentally. When Roy and Aldridge got in his face, he responded.
Odom left the bench, but not the sideline- he never went on the court, he was on the baseline. Still stupid, but not suspension worthy.
Enjoy your win Blazer fans...we'll own you in the 2nd round of the playoffs like always...if you make it that far. You guys are like the Lakers' little brother, sometimes you put up a fight (see '99 western conf. semis;) but always get your a$$ kicked by big brother in the end.
GO LAKERS!

Ariza was trying to block Rudy's shot. He was clearly trying to swipe at the ball, and that was mostly what he got, but he also got enough of Rudy to cause him to lose his balance. The foul was not intentional, nor was Rudy's fall, and the altercation that followed was two-sided - the Blazers were trying to stand up for their teammate and the Lakers were defending themselves. Stop trying to make this personal. It was a highly unfortunate miscalculation that hopefully (and most likely) wasn't as devastating as it looked.

Nico said...

First off I'm a Laker fan. It was a hard fall. Trevor meant no personal harm to Rudy. It was a high speed play with both players flying through the air. I can speak for all Laker fans and wish Rudy a speedy recovery!

Okay, all, this Ariza suspension talk is stupid. Theres a reason that officials are paid by the NBA to officiate, and theres a reason fans arnt qualified, fans officiate with their hearts, not their eyes, even a flagrant two was harsh, that play was a flagrant one at best. Yes, Ariza got Fernandez on the head, in eyes of many making it an automatic flagrant, but he was playing the ball.....the contact to the head was accidental, and if he had 3 more inches on his jump he would of avoided that all together, so then why was the fall so bad/? simple, look at the tape, Fernadez jumped off of 1 leg, giving him very little control, if the exact same foul occured and fernandez landed on his feet, no one would even be calling this a hard foul. So you guys need to learn your STUFF. And about the altercation.....maybe Ariza does deserve a fine.....but wasnt that Brandon Roy in his face? If Ariza gets a fine soo should Roy. Any one disagree, feel free to let me know..just know your stuff and soupport what you say, or you are not even worth my time. Now to offend all Blazers fans..It's one game, stop acting like you guys are a serious contender. WE have the best record, the best player (Brandon Roy) is a joke. Oh and good job taking Greg Oden Over Kevin Durant!

Talking about character! We do have and are descibed as the best fans in the league. YES WE ARE! This game showed me some true grit. It also showed me that when all cylinders are firing "the blazers can beat anyone! Get well Rudy, You are an essential piece of the team. WE NEED YOU!! Oh and as a note. for Jack, et al.

My problem is not with the foul. I can see he was going for the ball. Like a lot of us on this blog I play ball too, so I know that sometimes in going for a block or a hard drive to the lane you hurt people. That's basketball.

What is classless is Ariza's attitude after the incident. If Ariza's attitude was more like Jordan Farmar's this whole thing would be no big deal. But it wasn't. He wanted to take on the Blazers.

That's WWE, Jack. Not NBA.

Maybe a "writing campaign" is a little overboard :-) I was pretty upset about that last night.

Here's to a speedy recovery for Rudy!

Good job turbo.. way to contradict yourself all in the same sentence....

Just keep chirping the party line there bud. Maybe it will come true if you pray and wish hard enough.

Ariza deserves at least a 1 game suspension. We all know you'd be crying for a season long suspension if someone did that to Kobe.

Unknown said...

Wishing Rudy a prompt recovery. Seeing him laying down on the court and lose colors to his face was horrible. Get well Rudy. We love you.
Great game everyone. I am so happy for everyone who played last night. Especially my home boy Nicolas, taking on Kobe. You make me so proud Nico! I am proud of you all. Great players but especially great guys first.

Unknown said...

I think that everyone is a bit upset from both perspectives but would mostly like to comment that a flagrant 2 was the right call. If you take a big swing and hit someone above the shoulder that is a flagrant 2 wether you are trying to hurt someone or not wether you get ball or not. The NBA wants to protect the players and that is their ruling. Obviously if intent to harm is involved then suspensions will occur. I think Ariza's intent wasn't to hurt Rudy but he displayed bad judgement in trying that reckless swipe in that circumstance. I also think he was a little bit too aggressive after the incident and even though everyone got in his face he should have just accepted it (like Big Baby Davis did on Sunday vs the Cavs) instead of getting his cockfeathers rustled. I doubt he will get a suspension but I do think Odom will for leaving the bench and getting in the fray.
In the end I hope Rudy in back in action soon as he is great to watch and brings a lot of energy and pop to the Blazers' bench.

Samuel Lippke said...

Ariza went for the ball. A flagrant shouldn't have been called and definitely not a flagrant 2. The fact that Brandon Roy was up in Ariza's face while Ariza was being held back is uncalled for. We all wish the best for Rudy, but stop with this Trevor hatting... its basketball people! This is a physical game.

Unknown said...

Why don't all you Laker fans make comments on your own site and leave us to ours??? You don't need to defend the Lakers any more than Odom needed to get off the bench! The fact remains that Rudy was hurt and the only person on the Lakers who showed ANY class when that happened was Farmar....all Lakers and Laker fans could learn a lesson from him!!

Get back to the game soon, Rudy! We LOVE you!!!

Hmmm about the lakers. It may be a coincident, but everytime someone gets really hurt after a hard foul, not only rudy but also gerald wallace, a laker had fouled them.

Right now i dont know who is to blame, but this maybe just a coincidence. But If this keeps up, the lakers will be in my least favorite team...

i hate it when everyone says watch the replay. infact when these games are played so fast. in that type of a situation there should be no try for the ball, other than to cause a foul and possibly hurt the person in the air. stop it and watch it real time. replay only shows how bad his judgement was in trying to block that shot from behind. totally knocking rudy unbalanced. hope all teams can respect each other next time they play.

jsjla said...

I'm a Lakers fan, but I want to send my best wishes to Rudy to get better quickly. I love watching him play and think he's a great player with a lot of talent. But, I also want to defend Ariza. He's a good guy and would never to anything intentionally to injure another player, regardless of how frustrated he is. If you look at the tape, you can see, he was only trying to swat at the ball. Rudy unfortunately landed terribly. Our guard Farmar was the first player on the court to see if Rudy was OK. You can hate the Lakers in the context of the game, but don't hate them as human beings. I hope Ariza doesn't get suspended for a terrible injury he didn't intend to cause. It wasn't a hard foul, it was a hard fall. GET BETTER RUDY!

ariza went after the head .. when you cock your arm and know they guy is going up then you lay your elbow across the guys head you are doing so with purpose. no accidents here.. the lakers take cheap shots they have been doing it all year. bynum did so against the cavs earlier this year then karma got to him and his knee injury... respect the game fakers

As a Blazer season ticket holder I am also a Laker fan. Ariza's foul last night was a hard foul. I do believe that he meant no harm to Rudy and replays show that he was going for the ball. Replays also show that Lamar Odom did leave the bench area and indeed take a step towards the scuffle and should serve a game for doing so. But it's a game people. One winner and one loser. Pure and simple. In order to win with class you have to know how to loose with class. I was in attendance at last nights game and was very saddened by the display of character of some Blazer fans. They showed total disrespect for the opposing fans as well as made the Blazer organization look bad. The Blazers have finally put together a good team with great players and have worked hard to get rid of their "jailblazer" image. Fans need to limit their alcohol consumption and enjoy the game for what it is.....a game!

Rudy- We love you. Recover well and quickly... While the foul from Ariza was not very smart, I honestly believe it was not meant to hurt Rudy as badly as it did. However, after the play Ariza's total lack of concern for Rudy's welfare and his agressive attitude was completely disgusting. I believe that Brandon went over initially to calm his teammates down and defer a dangerous situation, but Ariva's attitude set him off. It could have been worse. No one hit anybody. And Rudy is OK. That is the best thing. Well...along with that fantastic win!!!!!! Go Blazers. You are all the best!!!

1ST OF ALL I DIDNT CONTRADICT MYSELF, I THINK THAT WAS A HORRIBLE CALL BY THE OFFICIALS..

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, if this happened to kobe..i wouldnt ask for a suspension, id just wait for us to play that team again, so Kobe could do something special.... and unlike for portland, something special isnt considered a 30 point game, like those Brandon Roy ocassionally gets, when Kobe does something special it goes down in History!

And Cindy, the other post.....
if only blazerz fan posted on this blog you guys would call the blazers the championship favorites.

blazers are a joke!

Rudy..a flopper? i dont think so. And looking at the foul. Completely unneccesary. With 3 seconds left in the 3rd quarter and your down by 20. Theres no need to come from the back and bring them down.

Dodgerdog1980 said...

I'm sorry dude got hurt and I'm truly glad that he is doing much better. But that was NO flagrant foul! Seriously, do you really believe that? It is obvious that Trevor was going for the ball and accidentally got a little bit of Rudy's head, he wasn't trying to do anything malicious(HELLO! WATCH THE REPLAY!!!). A small bump and Rudy's OWN momentum were the reasons Rudy was introduced to Mr. Ground. Blazzers were playing hard! It was crazy! Obviously the better team last night, that was a well deserved W. and we deserved the L(woo hoo Lucky 13).

As for Lakers being floopers, I'll let our record (50-13) speak for itself. And ball hogs???? Isn't that the whole purpose of basketball? you want the ball on your side most of the time so that you get more chances at scoring points???

Some need to use words a little more careful, somebody wrote, "Rudy, I can't wait to see you on the floor again!" Ta loco "I can't wait to see you on the floor again." Look at what happened last time Rudy was on the floor.... I'm sure that person meant, "I can't wait to see you back on the court." just poor choice of words. =)

-PEACE!

Ariza gave a foul too hard in that piece of action. There was no way he can reach Rudy already, who was up way too ahead of him. Ariza if he wanted to give a foul could have just slapped Rudy's back or shoulder, leaving the latter with enough balance to plant his feet. Instead, he went for the head, while his momentum was heading in a direction opposite Rudy's causing him to loose balance completely.

It was just a foul that makes a good leauge look back. I think a suspension should be slapped on him.

Anonymous said...

If someone already posted this same notion previously I apologize. I don't think the fowl was meant to hurt Rudy per se, however one thing that people didn't seem to notice is that after Ariza bumped Rudy on the head, his arm came down and locked around Rudy's arm. It was the locking down around Rudy's arm that caused him to spin in the air out of control. After the initial swipe, which could be considered going after the ball, he tried to hinder Rudy's motion. So I don't have much sympathy for Ariza.

Unknown said...

It seems to me this isn't even about basketball right now, Rudy has become a part of the Portland community, and for a moment last night it looked like he might have been in real trouble. He's a class act, like pretty much all of our guys this season. A speedy recovery, and my respect Rudy!

As for Ariza I don't think he consciously meant to to hurt our guy, but something (frustration, subconscious or otherwise) made him hook his arm and tie Rudy up. That's what sent Rudy down so hard, not the blow to the head. I don't know if it warrants further sanctions or not, but it was blatantly un-sportsman like.

Britt said...

Guys the fact is Ariza delivered a hard foul that was unnecessary! Rudy did not flop, and I don't think the foul was meant to hurt Rudy. But... when a guy is up in the air and you come behind him like that the odds are he will get hurt, and Ariza knew it!
Like Roy said after, the reason I am so pissed of at Ariza is the attitude he showed after!
Way to go Lakers... you showed your true colors.
Rudy, our thoughts and prayers are with you! Get better!
Lakers, get some class.

Just announced by NBA officials within the last hour: Trevor Ariza will not be assessed a game penalty. That's the right call. They are still reviewing Lamar Odom's situation and I'm sure he will get a game suspension. However, Trevor was clearly going for the ball and meant no harm. And by the way, Laker fans do have class by showing their concerns for Rudy. If tables would have been turned, would we see any Blazer well wishes on the Laker blogs....probably not. Show some respect people.

I don't think it was on purpose, I just wonder what laker fans would be saying if everytime we go to LA some one gets dropped hard by us or leaves the court on a stretcher. for laker fans i think the classy move would be to keep quite take what your given and move on. mouthing off and saying that he got ball is obsurd.if someone is in the air full speed fully extended and you come from the side cock your arm back and swing for the fence im sure your going to get a little ball.along with arm head body and everything else.
flagrant 2 very justified suspension no.actions after play call that emotions on both sides if lamar gets a suspension i think that would be a technicallity.he didnt participate just left the bench area.
OH AND ONE LAST THING THE BEST TEAM IN THE NBA AS ALL YOU LAKER FANS ARE SAYING SHOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE A LOSS.HOPE TO SEE YOU IN THE PLAYYOFFS. BLAZER FAN

but get a grip on reality people
some of you are making a mountain out of a mole hill
that was a clean foul by a clean player
there was no intention of hurting rudy fernandez on ariza's part
thank god he will be allright!!!
again
my hope is that both teams are fully healthy in the re-match on april 10th
GO LAKERS!!!

Ànims rudy, que d'aquí 2 dies estaràs disputant-li el lloc al Brandon, que per cert s'ha indignat molt amb l'Ariza.

I was worried sick about Rudy! Whew! I am pleased that he is a-okay. I love it when the Lakers give me one more reason to hate them... whether they did did it on purpose or not!

ALL YOU BLAZER FANS OVER DO IT. IT WAS A BANG BANG PLAY SO GET OVER IT. THE REFS GIVE ANY ONE A FLAGRANT IF THE OTHER PERSON FALLS HARD. IT WAS CLEAR THAT ARIZA WAS GOING FOR THE BALL BUT OF COURSE THE REFS OVER REACT JUST LIKE BLAZER FANS. BUT EITHER WAY THE BLAZERS WON AND THAT WAS THERE TIME TO SHINE. ITS TO BAD THAT IS THE CLOSEST FEELING YOU GUYS WILL GET TO BEING IN THE FINALS, SO WHEN YOUR WATCHING THE LAKERS IN JUNE STILL PLAYING FOR A TITLE JUST TRY TO REMEMBER HOW YOU FELT WHEN YOU BEAT THE LAKERS AND YOU WILL GET JUST A TASTE OF WHAT THE LAKERS HAVE BEEN DOING FOR DECADES. RUDY ITS TO BAD YOUR ON THE WRONG TEAM GET WELL!! LAKERS ALL THE WAY!!!

I can't believe there are some laker fans who still believe Ariza's play was a legitimate play. The guy was swinging his arm like a flail and it was bound to end ugly especially in a fast-break situation. Maybe no malice was intended, who knows, but that play (if anyone can call it a play) was cheap, dirty and reckless.

Anyone who thinks that Rudy was flopping, they can try to imitate the situation for themselves. When someone loses balance in mid-air during the full speed drive-in, flopping will be the last thing that pops into their mind.

This incidence looks very similar to when Gerald Wallace went down after being elbowed by Bynum. That play (again, if you can call it a play) was also cheap and dirty, without the respect for the fellow player's welfare. I hope the Lakers aren't en route to becoming the league's dirtiest team. They are the heavy favourites to win it all this season, and winning dirty simply soils the league's image.

I'm not a fan of Blazers nor Lakers, but as a fan of NBA, a foul play like this should not go unpunished.

It's good to hear Rudy's injury isn't too serious though... Blazers cannot afford to lose Rudy at this time of the year, not especially when Oden is likely to miss more games.

To all the kobe and laker fans:

honestly..yes you guys still have the best record, but how long do you think they'll last in the playoffs? anything can happen and anything is possible. for example a few years back when the mavs were number one, they got swept by the warriors in the FIRST round. i'm not saying that they won't win or pass the first round, i'm just saying think about all the other good teams in the west. also not to take a stab at you guys, but without bynum, you guys don't have a chance against the elite teams in the league. also you guys won't win a championship anytime soon.

as far as kobe being the best player..i don't think so.. yes he can score, but by far not the best player in the nba. i give it to lebron james or even dwayne wade. the only reason you guys think he's the best player is because of his seniority. yes he's won championships, but only because shaq was there. he wasn't the best player when shaq was there. almost in a sense like saying jordan would have never won all those rings without pippen..or payton never being as good without kemp. i'm not hating on you lakers i'm just stating facts.

as for the foul: i don't think that anyone was intentionally trying to hurt one another. rudy was going in hard, but ariza, being as frustrated as he was, just took his anger and was trying to prove a point by going for the ball. i think that all the blazer fans are just upset because of ariza's actions after the foul..yes roy and others got in his face but this isn't the first time this has happened. and just like Lakerfan24 said "i'd just wait for the lakers to play them again to see kobe do something spectacular" and that's what Brandon Roy did. he showed that he's the true leader of the blazers and also showed that he can calm down and lead his team to a victory. if i recall, the lakers almost injured roy in the last meeting between the two. but anyway best wishes to Rudy and his family.

lakers fans: stop being ignorant and know that kobe will never win another championship. as all the emotions erupt just to let you guys know, you guys are just proving the point that all the blazer fans mean when you guys are sore losers.

blazer fans: keep supporting the team. if not this year, next year they're going to be a top contender. but just be patient with them. roy is almost an elite player if not already.

best wishes to both teams. goodluck rudy!

Re: mike: "Hmmm about the lakers. It may be a coincident, but everytime someone gets really hurt after a hard foul, not only rudy but also gerald wallace, a laker had fouled them.

Right now i dont know who is to blame, but this maybe just a coincidence. But If this keeps up, the lakers will be in my least favorite team..."

I guess you've never seen Kurt Rambis get fouled by Kevin McHale, or Rodney Stuckey get fouled by Shaq (while playing for PHX), or Jason Maxiell get fouled by Kendrick Perkins, or Anderson Varejao get fouled by Big Baby Davis, or Mike Miller get fouled by David West, or Ilgauskas get fouled by Rasheed Wallace, or Rajon Rondo get fouled by Marvin Williams, or Luol Deng get fouled by James Posey (while playing for MIA)...

Hard (maybe dirty) fouls occur all the time. Doesn't make it right, but that doesn't give you the right to cherry pick fouls and from that selectively hate one team for being dirty.

EVERYONE IS FORGETTING 1 THING!!!

If the officials weren't so one sided, the Lakers wouldnt have been so frustrated to begin with, Ariza wouldnt have tried so feverishly to deny Fernandez, and we wouldnt be bloggin here.

The officials called so many ticky tack fouls against the Lakers and cleary gave the Blazers an advantage.

Not to take anything away from the effort of the Blazers, but they kept fouling the Lakers all night long, yet hardly any fouls were noticed by these idiot reffs.

All I ask is JUST BE FAIR, and CONSISTENT! If the Lakers lost fair and square, so be it. Clearly the Lakers lost due to the officials poor officiating.

How can you expect a World Class team to be at their best if they kept getting handicapped by the reffs.

I swear its entirely the reffs fault, period. They should suspend themselves.

Hey Rudy, have a rest and get well soon. This is just what the lakers have just like their coach. they act like a lemon when they lose a game.

WE LOVE YOU RUDY.
