The fans aren't stupid, the know players like Greg Oden are still partying and still maturing. It's when players do these irresponsible things when they know the whole worlds watching. It's disrespectful to the fans when a player is breaking the law and they know their are impressionable young fans out there looking up to them. Mayo did something any young kid would do, take money. Not a big deal, I'm sure the fans can get past that. It's the people that offered the money that bother me, taking advantage of a player knowing they may may need money to help their family and are under pressure from family and friends to come through.

There is a line the player can cross. Nobodies perfect, but driving drunk and doing drugs is far from something the fan can be proud of. There's a difference between a player getting in a car accident, and getting in an accident because he was drinking. I can't fault a guy like Mayo for taking money when I know I would do the same thing.

I think fans trust Kevin Pritchard to evaluate the person and decide what kind of fit they will be in Portland.

You guys are retarded. I've met Kevin Garnett in person at an Adidas photo shoot at Benson High School, the guy came up to me and shook my hand. Nicest NBA player I've ever met. Lakers got Gasol gift wrapped, and lets not forget about Kobe in Colorado. You guys lost major respect man.

I don't like Kevin Garnett trying to intimidate players but what are you going to do, cry about it. Lakers winning a championship is terrible. Do you realize how many annoying Kobe fan boys are going to talk about how Kobe is better than Jordan forever if the Lakers win. I really don't want to see the Lakers win a championship until the Blazers are at full strength and are there to challenge them.

Blazers edge guy is cool though, thank god someone isn't on the enemies side. You guys get major thumbs down.

broyftw: I can understand what you're saying, but I think it's a little much to expect a 20 year-old to be a role model. It's hard enough being young without having to think about what everyone else is going to think of your actions.

As far as Garnett goes, I'm sure he's a nice guy at public appearances, but that doesn't necessarily make him a good person. It makes him image conscious. If you asked any journalist who has had to cover KG what they think about him, you'd overwhelmingly get a negative response.

Like I said during the podcast, I don't want either team to win. If there were some way that both teams could lose, I'd be rooting for that option. But between the two, I'll take the team from the Western Conference.

Nice podcast Casey, but the reason you should be rooting for the Celtics is because the last and only time the Blazers won the championship the Celtics had won it the year before!

Is it October yet?

Casey,
I liked your analogy of a punch in the gut vs a punch in the face. I feel that way as well, but I have even less respect for Kobe than for Garnett. Tough choice though ...

How does Westbrook look ? Are you going to have a report ?

Isn't it the management's job to explain to young players what comes with the territory of being a NBA player? Management needs to explain the opportunity these players have getting payed millions to play a game they love. I'm sure if you told a guy he could work a regular 9-5 job and be a reckless loser, or get payed 10 million and be a role model they would take the latter.

I happen to be 20 and I don't understand how these ball players living a dream and still cause problems off the court. This is why I appreciate Kevin Pritchard so much. He doesn't pick punk kids, he sees the value of the whole person.

If you don't like KG that's great because he has shown he doesn't deserve a title with his choking through out the finals. So even if he wins a title that MVP will go to Pierce. The Lakers are never the lesser of two evils. Hopefully the massive come back in game 4 will scar the Lakers forever.
