09.10.08 Edition of the Trailblazers.com Podcast

And ... we're back. Gavin Dawson of 95.5 The Game, Dave Deckard of Blazer's Edge and myself, Casey Holdahl, of trailblazers.com are all up in your favorite almost-weekly-except-when-it's-not Blazers-themed podcast.

This week we discuss best-case scenarios, the impact of Channing Frye's injury, Travis Outlaw's future in Portland and Dave runs down a laundry list of people and things Gavin has declared "soft." Basically it's just three guys talking Trail Blazers. Give it a listen, won't you?

Casey don't worry about the typos. You're just trying to get all your ideas out before they disappear in your mind. The more you write the better you get. I post so many things off the top of my head that I misspell words constantly and over use commas like I'm pausing in a speech.

On another note, Dave is great. He owned Gavin. Finally someone did it. Good job Dave.

A few comments:

-Gavin's characterization of Travis Outlaw as a southern 'homebody' could be construed as somewhat offensive. I'm sure Travis enjoys his relationship with Brandon Roy and like the city and the organization well enough, but the insinuations made by both Gavin and Casey were somewhat offensive. Basketball is first and foremost a business. To think that Travis would consider it any other way is an insult to his intelligence, and to both Gavin's and Casey's. I'm from Portland, but I find that frequently Northerner's have a stereotype of Southerners as, in some ways, more stupid than their northern counterparts. Just because Travis (or other Southerners) talk more slowly or live in a different way doesn't make them stupid. I never thought I'd be arguing for the South, but I thought that this might be a good thing to bring up, particularly with Casey's affiliation with the Blazers. And please do not just discount what I have written off-hand. This probably will not affect many people's lives or thinking, but is a point I felt needed to be made nonetheless. If you got this far, thanks for reading.

I can't speak for Gavin, but I have nothing but respect for Travis and his upbringing. In fact I've often defended Travis against allegations that he's unintelligent. I'm not exactly sure what I said that you've misconstrued as an insult to Travis or the South.

In regards to the business side of the game, I wasn't saying that Travis would take whatever he was given. I've had the opportunity to get to know Travis a bit, and all I was saying is that he values consistency. In my opinion, he's not the kind of guy who would relish picking up and moving to a new franchise. Southern or not, Travis is shy, period. Anyone who knows Travis knows this to be true. Given his personality, I am of the opinion that he would take a slightly smaller contract in order to stay in familiar surroundings.

Super duper podcast. You all had pretty valid points. Haha except Gavin...he's pretty soft.
