17 Jon Stefansson G 6-5 200 R 9/21/82 Iceland

*Monty Williams is the head coach of the Trail Blazers' 2008 NBA Summer League Team

Some old and new names on the list. Batum, Bayless and Koponen probably end up getting the most playing time. Chris Ellis has some serious post game and is a Blazers Summer League stalwart. Maurice Lucas' boy, David, is cut from the same mold as his dad and is another nice post option.

You have to figure Jon Stefansson will be the only Icelandic playing in Summer League, and we know Petteri Koponen is the only Finnish player whose rights are owned by an NBA team. Much international flavor.

I'll be learning more about these guys as I follow the team to Las Vegas, so be on the lookout for that.

  1. Don't know if it's my browser but there is a big black space in between the head line and the roster list. I guess it's true there will be no Ike.

  2. I love me some Josh Davis baby! Casey - you're going to like his game...pretty high-flyer for a white-guy! I used to play ball (and get killed) by him at The Hoop back in the day in Salem!

  3. Yeah Casey, what is the scoop on no 'lil Joel' Freeland?

  4. Joel Freeland is under contract with Gran Canaria of the Spanish ACB League, and thus, the Blazers must get permission for him to play in Summer League. I'm told that the team is working on getting an agreement in place, but there's no guarantee that will get figured out in time.

  6. David Lucas fresh of another great season in the IBL(iblhoopsonline.com)! He's lead the league in scoring two straight years; I'm glad he's getting a chance to show his skills at the next level. He did a great job with the Portland Chinooks (myspace.com/portlandchinooks)!

  7. Mike -

G.O. was listed as a projected starter for next year by Nate (see OLive blog) and won't be cleared by the team for scrimmaging until August I think it was...

  8. Yea what's the Deal with no Oden?

  9. That's right, not Greg Oden and no Rudy Fernandez. Oden is still workig on his rehab. I don't think the team wants to chance his recovery by playing in Summer League.

Rudy is playing for the Spanish National Team in the Olympics, which is why he won't be participating. The competition in the Olympics is better than that of Summer League, so he's getting more out of playing for Spain than he would playing in Las Vegas.

  11. NBA.com is not reporting Bayless on the summer league roster, I found this odd. I suspect NBA.com has made the error?

  13. I heard KP himself hesitantly say that it was a possibility that Oden could play. It was more like him saying that it isn't totally out of the question but we don't want to take any risks. It really sucks we have to wait until November to see anything.

I guess Summer League in Vegas is more for guards to showcase what kind of game they have. Hope Bayless, Batum, and Koponen really show shine. Greg Oden said that Chris Ellis is a beast. I hoe to see that out there too.

  15. I am want David Lucas on that team. He has a lot of heart and is a hard worker. I high school he barley got off the bench. Then he walks on at Oregon State and becomes a star. He should make the team.

  16. What's the deal? I see Von Wafer on the Knicks. When did that happen? Did we get anything for him? Break the story for me would you Casey?
