01.08.09 Edition of the Trailblazers.com Podcast

First podcast of 2009! First podcast in almost a month! Mad firsts. Gavin Dawson of 95.5 The Game, Dave Deckard of Blazer's Edge and myself, Casey Holdahl, of trailblazers.com are back in the studio mixing audio for your listening pleasure.

This week we talk about cooling the Pistons (get it!), Brandon Roy's imminent return, the future of the small forward, each of our Trail Blazers playoff predictions and Joel Przybilla's warrior spirit. It's wrist-breakingly good.

  1. The program of course was a great assessment of The Blazers.

IMO, the reason the fans wants more of Bayless is their love for the up tempo game. Steve doesn't bring that to the table. It has nothing to do with who is the best player; to them it is the excitement and the quick fix. At times, when we are not hitting our perimeter shots due to aggressive defenses than I think Jerryd is the answer. But as was said on the show, just throwing in Jerryd at time to time isn't going to get it because he gets to rusty and he hasn't developed his game in the NBA yet. As of right now he is not much different than Jarret Jack, he brings energy, can brake down the defense, can create for him, go to the rim and make stupid mistakes. That being said I think with playing time he will be much better than JJ.

On small forward, I agree that half of Batum talent would be wasted. I have thought this all along, that whether it be Travis or Batman out there the results are the same. They both loose focus on the game. One blogger asked what does touches on offense have to do with playing good defense? IMO it has a lot to do with defense because it keeps you involved in the game. Blazin 7 spends most of the first half getting and keeping teammates involved in the game. I am a firm believer that this makes them better at both ends of the floor.

Being curious without all the fact, we know The Lakers, The Celtics, Miami, Toronto, Orlando, and New York is playing better ball because of their defense. All the teams that are doing better defensively have a common denominator, Nate. I was thinking that the Olympians got better just from being in the Olympics. But, what if they taught Nate's style of defense to their teams to their respective teams? It sure makes sense to me. It makes our job harder because if they know the defensive scheme they will eventually figure out a countering offense.
