For all of Rudy's Spanish speaking fans out there, here's footage of the man himself answering my English questions in his native tongue. I have no idea was he's saying, but I'm sure one of you kind multilinguals out there can fill me in.
After the first question, he says that he was really surprised and it was incredible that there were so many people to greet him at the airport. For the second question, he says that the team of Roy, LMA, Oden, and Sergio will be a competitive one.
Great idea. Basically he says he is very surprised by the expectation he's created. He is also very excited to play alongside Brandon Roy, Greg Oden and Lamarcus. About the city of Portland he says he likes it, since it is a very "green" city and though he will have to get used to the rain, that will not be a problem. He also says it is very important for him in this first season to feel the support of the fans, since he will be living in a new city.
Rudy's the man. In just a couple minutes of interview it's obvious his head is in the right place, and he knows how special and opportune a time it is to join the Blazers. Like Felix says, he likes how green Portland is, but hasn't seen much (let's hope he never finds Gresham). Obviously, he won't be disappointed... we live in a great city with the most exciting team in the league. I'm down to make sure he realizes it early early on, and makes plans to stay well into the future.
Rudy understands your questions stated in english, but only answers in spanish. Answers questions during presser in english (good at that). Hummmm, well if first impressions are usually the correct ones. I'd say welcome to Portland, and oh Rudy, your an A-hole! You should fit into the NBA quite nicely, but in Portland, we fans value civility, and don't buy ego from someone who hasn't done anything yet in the league.
Good thing I studied spanish in grade school and high school. I could piece together alot of it and get a general idea of what he was saying. I welcome all those Spanish fans of Rudy and Sergio to jump on the Rip City bandwagon. Bienvenidos!
Rudy te deseamos toda la suerte que merece como el gran jugador que eres. Trail Blazers ha tenido un gran acierto contando contigo. Nos convertimos desde hoy en seguidor tuyo.
I asked Rudy to answer the questions in Spanish. It's an international game with an international fanbase, so I wanted to provide some content for Rudy's many international fans.
As long as Rudy is dunking on Dwight Howard this year like the olympic finals he can speak martian as far as that goes. Body language does talking too, as we see Bayless getting to the rim effortlessly in the rookie league. this is the year the Blazers dunk on the NBA so i hope that Martell, Travis and Godzilla Joel all follow our three rookies lead in GETTING UP! oh yeah, i think that guy Oden can dunk?

Rudy seems to be a humble guy. A very hard working & dedicated individual. He is willing to play for 7 times less money and come off the bench for a team that hasn't made the playoff since 2003 because he wants to play in the NBA that bad. Guys with HUGE egos stay in Spain and Make 8 Mil a year. If that isn't indicitive of a quality character guy then I dont know what is. And since I am from Portland and do indeed value civilty I hope you take your own advice.

ReplyDeleteRudy, you have one more spanish fan from Spain in me, that will follow you and your team in this magic game: NBA.
ReplyDeleteShow you all how much you can share and improve team game, as you did in Olimpics.
I'm waiting for your first alley-hoop.
