It's almost here. Tomorrow morning the Trail Blazers 2008-2009 schedule will be released. Are all those rumors you've been hearing true? We'll know soon enough.
There will be tough stretches, there will be easy stretches (as "easy" as anything is in the Western Conference, that is), but my question to you is: Does it matter? Is it better to have a more difficult schedule early? Late? Can things like the number of back-to-back's can change the dynamic of a season? What about the extra travel now that the Sonics reside in Oklahoma City? Do playoff teams simply overcome those hurdles, or are playoff teams made thanks to beneficial scheduling? I've got my own thoughts that I'll share tomorrow, but I'd like to get your opinions first.
But, Casey... The real question about the schedule is: Which games will I get to see with my half-season ticket plan?
ReplyDeleteJust please don't be 16 of 24 games on the road please. If it is, then we know the NBA hates us.
ReplyDeleteAlso I'm hoping Lakers vs. Blazers on opening night is true.
Personally I'd like to see the Blazers play a few "soft" games early, and then play tougher competition as the season progresses. That would give them the opportunity for some wins, and as they gain experience they could prep to become one of the better teams in the league (whether that happens this year, next or the year after that). As a general rule, I think it benefits teams to play stiffer competition. Maybe not as many wins, but better developed and prepared.
ReplyDeleteI think that a real playoff team can get over any hurdle. Whether it be a back to back, cross-country travel, or an elite line-up of opponents. To be the best, you have to play the best, and that means getting past these tough spots that every team has.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be best to have a tough streak in the middle of the season. That way you can start of strong and build confidence, then at the end of the season, you can build momentum for the playoffs.
Anyway, thats just my thoughts
I just checked NBA.com and we ARE playing the Lakers on opening night! I can't wait for this season to start. I'll be at home screaming "Beat LA"
